The Issue

In 2016-2017 Angola implemented the first round of a mass long-lasting insecticidal net (LLIN) distribution campaign in five provinces, which intended to achieve universal coverage with LLINs by providing one new LLIN for every two people in each household irrespective of nets owned by the household from previous campaigns or other sources.
As part of the PMI VectorWorks project, a five-year $60 million cooperative agreement led by the John Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, Tropical Health conducted a process evaluation to provide insights and recommendations on necessary modifications of the procedures and processes that needed to be made for the second round of the campaign.

Our Approach

implementers, reviewing planning and reporting documents, and conducting observations of campaign and key informant interviews in two provinces and at national level. Tropical Health also used a rapid monitoring approach at household level to assess completeness of household registration.

Our Findings

The findings from the process evaluation were compiled and synthesized, and key findings and recommendations were presented to the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), PMI, and stakeholders. The findings empowered NMCP Angola and its partners to adapt and improve processes in subsequent rounds of the campaign.
