The Issue

Investments in malaria vector control have resulted in major reductions in malaria morbidity and mortality. However, progress has slowed since 2020, and new threats are emerging. These include mosquitoes’ increasing resistance to the insecticides used in vector control measures, the spread of the invasive Anopheles stephensi mosquito within Africa, and climate change that affects the geographical range, intensity, and seasonality of all vector-borne diseases.

Our Approach

Tropical Health is a sub-partner on PMI Evolve, USAID’s flagship vector control project, led by Abt Associates, and will provide thought leadership, strategy development, insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs) related analyses, and propose cross-country research priorities to inform the project’s local and global stakeholders on ITN distribution policy, intervention design, and emerging trends in ITN selection and use.
