The Issue

The health system in South Sudan was characterised by insufficient funding, inequitable distribution of health centres and health workers, weak service delivery, and devastated infrastructure caused by years of armed conflict. The objective of the FCDO-led Health Pooled Fund was to provide access to good-quality basic health services focusing on maternal and child health. The Fund Manager consortium lead, Crown Agents, implemented the pooled funding model which led to a substantial increase in service delivery.
Tropical Health was commissioned by Crown Agents’ consortium partner, Montrose, to develop a series of documents to support their end-of-programme legacy and learning documentation and dissemination plan designed to examine all major aspects of the health system.

Our Approach

Through extensive document review and analysis of health management information system data, Tropical Health was able to compile information on the overall strategy of the project and show progression in achieving objectives over a period spanning just over a decade.
Tropical Health produced multiple learning briefs, legacy briefs, and an infographic depicting the programme achievements against the service delivery continuum in South Sudan in addition to a dashboard showing progress on key project indicators.

Our Findings

Further findings will be shared as the project progresses.
